Accounting Associate

My days are spent performing many different accounting duties, compiling financials, preparing grant reports, and providing budgetary support to the teams that manage grant spending. There is always something new to learn and I get to work with people from each team almost every day.

My brother previously worked at the Center as a contractor, and he told me lots of fun stories about the staff. From the moment I interviewed, I knew this was a good fit for me. The mission is spot on and the people I work with are a great bonus!

After I left college, I was a tax accountant and auditor specializing in nonprofits. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home and raise my three boys for the next 10 years. Joining the Center has been a wonderful way to re-enter the workforce.

I grew up in Oakland, Nebraska, and I loved everything about my rural upbringing. From college to marriage, I lived in several large cities, and, although they were great, I knew I wanted my children to grow up in a rural community. Convincing my Denver-born husband was a challenge, but we couldn't be happier living life with so many friendly neighbors.

Outside of work, I love tending to my houseplants—I have more than 100 plants in my home! Thanks to my husband, I am a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. I have three sons, a giant dog named Lyle, and two cats, Fern and Goose. All summer long you will find my family either at a baseball game or hanging out on the beach of our family lake.

Q&A

What's something surprising about you that most people don't know?

I can plumb a house, drywall, lay tile, install cabinets, and pretty much anything else required of a remodel.

Who is someone you look up to?

My husband. Mushy, I know, but he teaches me how to believe. He is the hardest working person I know, and his ability to stick with the tough stuff truly amazes me.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?

There are SO many places I want to see. I will go with the easiest answer and say Wrigley Field. Go, Cubs, go!
