GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA – A five-part workshop on “Emerging Small Construction Start-ups” will be offered to local entrepreneurs and business owners in Spanish on Thursdays, Feb. 21 and 28, and March 7, 14, and 21. This free event is presented by the Center for Rural Affairs in partnership with University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, Nebraska Enterprise Fund, and AGC Nebraska Chapter.

This session will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Office, 3180 W US-34, Room 203, in Grand Island.

“This workshop series will explore the ins and outs of a small construction business,” said Griselda Rendon, Latino loan specialist with the Center for Rural Affairs. “In a recent study, 22.4 percent of Latino small business ownership in Nebraska was concentrated in ‘construction.’ This demonstrates the need for education in our area.”

Small business owners will learn how to read contract specifications, prepare work estimates, determine contract performance and follow safety requirements.

The workshop series will be led by construction professionals from BD Construction, Chief Construction, Dvorak Law Group, and Ellerbrock-Norris Insurance.

Registration is required by Feb. 18. To register or to receive more information, contact Griselda Rendon at 308.850.4820 or griseldar@cfra.org.
