Hy-Vee nutritionist shares 'What’s Healthy in Your Garden'

Lyons, NE - A FREE nutrition workshop will be held on Friday, August 5 in Santee, NE at the Santee Community Center. Kenny Tomek, nutritionist from the Hy-Vee in Yankton, will describe the healthy attributes and nutritional value of multiple kinds of garden produce, helping participants learn some of the health and nutritional benefits of growing produce in their garden.

Additionally, the workshop will include a cooking demonstration designed to help gardeners and purchasers of fresh produce utilize as many of the nutritious vegetables they have at hand. “We will be demonstrating a simple summer soup called Ratatouille which uses all of the great vegetables growing in a summer garden,” said April Goettle of the Center for Rural Affairs.

According to Goettle, free gardening kits are available to those who attend.
