Nebraska City, Neb. - Prospective business owners are invited to learn about available resources at a free workshop offered in Spanish, organized by the Center for Rural Affairs.

Two sessions of “Getting Ready to Start My Business” are set for Wednesday, April 4, starting at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The event will be at Nebraska City Center for Children and Families, 917 Wildwood Lane, in Nebraska City.

Mabel Alarcon-Craven, Center for Rural Affairs business development consultant, who serves Spanish-speaking business owners and aspiring business owners in southeast Nebraska, will present the workshop.

“Most people have dreamed of being their own boss,” she said. “Some have a vision of starting a restaurant, a retail store, or a business their whole family can work in. For others, the dream is getting paid to do what they love, like sewing, baking, or building. And, many people wish they had extra income while staying home with their kids or after they retire.”

The Center provides one-on-one coaching and technical assistance in four primary areas including financing, networking, technical assistance, and education and training.

Alarcon-Craven said community members have identified business opportunities that are needed in Nebraska City, and she looks forward to helping people explore their options.

“How do you know if you have the right skills and personality to run a business?” she said. “Is this the right time to start the business? Is there a big enough market for the product or service? If you have a dream for a business that provides a better life for yourself and your family, and makes southeast Nebraska stronger, I want to hear about it.”
