Staff spotlight: Samantha Goodbird puts the human touch in human resources

Small Towns

Some of the main roles in human resources management include hiring and training people, and developing policies and strategies to retain them. But the position is much more than procedures and paperwork.

With deep rural roots and extensive experience in the field, Samantha Goodbird has a reputation for building strong relationships, managing projects, and helping others succeed.

She recently brought her talents to the Center for Rural Affairs, and Chief Administrative Officer Linda Butkus is thrilled to have Samantha as the Center’s human resources manager.

“She comes with a tremendous background in human resources management, not only with her academic credentials, but also with her professional work experiences,” said Linda. “Samantha's results-driven leadership style and collaborative approach fit very nicely with the Center's values and our inclusive workplace.”

Samantha has earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from Wayne State College. Her undergraduate degree is also in business administration, with a concentration on human resources management.

“I became interested in human resources when I realized I had the ability to help people,” she said. “I wanted to be able to guide people through their employment. My aim is to provide employees with tools to make them successful, be a listening ear when needed, and the voice of reason.”

She’s enthusiastic about having the opportunity to use her experience to optimize human resources at the Center, as well as contribute to the Center’s well-established positive workplace.

Samantha enjoys collaborating with the rural communities served by the Center and understands the needs and values of people in small towns.

“Growing up in rural America, I have learned to appreciate hard work, resilience, and community support,” said Samantha. “I chose to raise my kids in rural America because of the unique culture, close-knit communities, and a greater sense of security.”

Samantha lives in the small town of Decatur, Nebraska, and can be reached at her office in Lyons at 402.687.2100, ext. 1013, or samanthag@cfra.org.
