Action Alert: Urge your state senator to support the Nebraska Environmental Trust

Policy

Your voice is needed to make sure Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET) funds are distributed and used according to their original intent.

NET is a tremendous asset to our rural communities, using revenue generated by the Nebraska Lottery for projects that “conserve, enhance, and restore the natural environments of Nebraska.” Through a comprehensive, independent, and competitive grant process, the Trust has granted funds to more than 2,400 conservation and environmental projects across Nebraska’s 93 counties, serving as a catalyst for positive change for decades.

Unfortunately, the NET is under threat of losing its current funding in favor of projects not included within the original intent of the Trust.

We need your help to ensure NET funds are distributed and used according to their original intent. Legislative Resolution 298 Constitutional Amendment (LR 298CA) would allow voters to decide in the November 2026 general election if NET funds should be used exclusively for projects that benefit the environment, as directed by the Trust.

The hearing for LR 298CA is Thursday, Feb. 19. Comments to the Natural Resource Committee are due by 8 a.m. that morning and can be submitted online here. You can also contact the members of the committee individually via this link

Thank you for helping sustain the integrity of this Trust. If you have any questions or would like more information about contacting your senators or representative, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
