Nick Bergin
Senior Director of Development

As senior director of development, I lead the Center’s individual donor fundraising activities and coordinate institutional funding strategies across the organization.

Prior to joining the Center, I spent a decade as a newspaper reporter, then worked for 18 months as a marketing director of a for-profit business. The passion for storytelling and community that drew me to those roles is an asset for communicating a consistent and positive message in outreach, grant writing, and donor cultivation for the Center.

I believe in a team-oriented approach to developing promotional strategies and achieving data-driven goals. The skills I learned as a reporter, like grit, a good work ethic, and not being afraid to ask the tough questions, help me in this job, too.

Rural communities are diverse places full of diverse people. Those people have their own unique voices, dreams, and challenges. I’m proud to be a part of the Center’s ongoing work to create strong, vibrant, and sustainable communities.

I live in Bronson, Iowa, a community of about 320 people. When I have spare time, I enjoy watermelon seed-spitting contests, gardening, and reading horror novels.
