Heather Sparks
Policy Associate

Clean energy makes up a large facet of my work with the Center. As a policy associate, I support energy policy efforts across all four states in the Center’s coverage area, with a key focus on siting policy and community benefits agreements. I also enjoy connecting with stakeholders to learn about and better understand their perspectives.

My diverse professional background is proof that I have always tried to choose work that is helpful or service-oriented. I’ve provided research, storytelling, and community engagement expertise to civic-minded startups, small businesses, and creative agencies. Being part of the Center team allows me the opportunity to support its respected efforts advancing clean energy policy and rural well-being.

Rural America facilitates a cherished way of life for millions of people, as well as being the site for vital agricultural and industrial activity upon which people around the country and the world rely. Rural life has also truly shaped me personally, as I grew up in rural California and moved to rural Nebraska as an adult. Being raised in a close community surrounded by natural beauty prompted me to devote my education and parts of my career to promoting sustainability for everyone.
