LYONS, NEBRASKA – The Center for Rural Affairs has chosen the Associated General Contractors - Nebraska Building Chapter to receive its 2020 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit Award is presented annually to an individual or individuals who best exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit that is so crucial to the future prosperity of Nebraska’s rural communities. This person or organization has demonstrated outstanding support for the Center and exceptional dedication to small business development through technical assistance, business training, lending, and networking across rural Nebraska.

Over the past year, the Nebraska Building Chapter has partnered with the Center to host a Construction Academy workshop series, providing presenters and resources for the classes.

“The Nebraska Building Chapter has been very intentional of who they ask to present and have been a great partner organization,” said Kim Preston, Lending Services Director with the Center for Rural Affairs. “Sheila O’Connor, executive director, has bent over backwards to help in the success of the academy.”

The Construction Academy provides rural entrepreneurs, small business owners, and managers in rural areas more opportunities to complete requirements and certifications specific to their industry. The classes have been held in various communities and online.

No award ceremony will be held this year due to the pandemic.
