The Center arrived at a moment in my life when I needed motivation. With its guidance, I had the opportunity to meet professionals in my area and exchange ideas with them that have since helped me run my farm more efficiently. I received assistance creating a business plan, as well as participated in and became a farmer host for Center-sponsored events. In 2024, I was part of the third cohort of the Center’s Beginning Farmer Conservation Fellowship.

My interest in conservation began at a young age when I encountered the effects of habitat destruction in my local community in Brazil. This led me to pursue studies in agricultural and natural resources science and engage in various conservation projects. My farm, Huertos Regenerativos Na Terra, was born out of concern for the environment and soil.

I believe the Center gave me the vision to turn my operation into what it is today—a farm that honors the traditional knowledge passed down through generations, rooted in Indigenous practices, inspired by the methods of my ancestors, who farmed in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

I’m grateful for the networking opportunities and connections I've been able to make through the Center. The Center has been a bridge that will unite the Latino community with David City. It’s important for our community to have an institution that will take care of small businesses. That’s what it’s all about: how to take care of small agricultural businesses in a more sustainable way. I see that our Latino community has a connection to an institution that cares; cares for the soil, cares for the environment, cares for people, and cares for life.
