Northeast Nebraska is a top agricultural producer, with nearly 13,000 farms averaging $7.2 billion in annual sales. While farms in this region post the highest average income among Nebraska regions studied, a third still lose money. Much of the area's farm wealth flows out through input purchases made beyond the region.
Despite its strong output, Northeast Nebraska imports most of its food.
