AVOCA, IOWA – Home gardeners and small growers looking to scale up are invited to attend a free workshop that will provide the tools and knowledge to help them sell their produce locally.

Hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs and Avoca Main Street, “From Garden to Market: Growing for Your Community,” will be Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m., at Avoca Public Library, 213 N Elm St.

“Join us for an inspiring and practical workshop where experienced farmers and market vendors share how to take the next step—from backyard plots to market-ready production,” said Deborah Solie, senior project associate with the Center. “Get ready to learn how to grow more, sell more, and strengthen your local food system.”

The workshop will cover topics like planting, and extended harvests; pricing, packaging, and marketing for local markets; connecting with farmers markets, customers, and community programs; and how scaling up supports the local economy and food system.

Featured speakers include Amber Mohr, Fork Tail Farm and director of Avoca Main Street; Mary Buchanan, Prairie Dome Farm; and Emily Paulsen, Brun Ko Farm.

Light refreshments will be served.

Registration is required by Feb. 25. To register, visit cfra.org/events. For more information, contact Solie at [email protected] or 402.870.1133.
