The Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is currently in the process of setting carbon reduction goals and is looking to its local public power districts and customer-owners for feedback on energy production. This decision will inform the utility’s plans for the next 20 to 30 years, so it is imperative that robust, forward-looking carbon reduction goals are set.
Customers are invited to submit their thoughts and comments to NPPD through this survey, which is open until Sept. 1.
Strong carbon reduction goals are the responsible path forward for Nebraska. Renewable energy is winning the price war against fossil fuels and is cheaper to develop than continuing to operate existing coal plants, translating to lower electric rates for customers. Renewable energy is also a significant economic boost for rural communities because it is charged a nameplate capacity tax that is distributed back through the county the same way as property taxes, supporting schools, infrastructure, and emergency services. Additionally, renewable projects bring stable income to landowners, new jobs, and increased retail sales to local communities.
