MASON CITY, IOWA – The Winnebago River Watershed Management Coalition (WRWMC) is inviting community members to stop by its booth at the North Iowa Fair July 29 through Aug. 2 to learn more about ongoing efforts to improve water quality, reduce flooding, and enhance recreation throughout the Winnebago River Watershed.
Representatives from the coalition and planning team will be available during the fair to provide updates on the Watershed Management Plan, answer questions, and gather input from residents, landowners, and other stakeholders across the watershed.
The Winnebago River Watershed spans more than 600,000 acres in northern Iowa, covering parts of Winnebago, Worth, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, and Hancock counties. The WRWMC is a voluntary coalition of three counties, five cities, and three soil and water conservation districts, working together to protect the watershed through collaboration with farmers, residents, and other stakeholders.
Work on the Watershed Management Plan began in July 2025 and will be completed in September 2026 with assistance from JEO Consulting Group. The plan will identify and prioritize projects to improve water quality, reduce flood risks, and enhance recreational opportunities—all through voluntary, cooperative efforts.
