Windmills Across Nebraska

Artists from all over Nebraska are invited to participate in Winds of Life: Windmills across Nebraska, a statewide art project of the Center for Rural Affairs. For full details, visit the project's new visually-oriented website: www.windsoflife.com.

Project Overview: Artists may use any media to shape their versions of windmills. Sponsorship will be awarded to the artists with the best prototype outdoor windmill sculptures, as determined through a juried process. Sponsored artists will have until May 1, 2007 to complete and display the sculptures. Windmill sculptures will be juried a second time in May 2007 for awarding of special categories of prizes.

Phase Two of the project will incorporate creation of other forms of windmill art and windmill-themed community events. Outdoor windmill sculptures will be displayed in communities throughout WindmillNebraska from May 2007 through August 2007. Maps of these displays will be available at the Center for Rural Affairs and local tourism information sites.

All sculptures and artistic pieces will be auctioned off in September 2007. Auction proceeds will support the work of the artists and rural community development. Proceeds invested in rural development will be shared by participating communities and the Center for Rural Affairs for activities such as the Women’s Project for Rural America, whose goal is to increase rural women’s activism and advocacy for rural issues.
