The Microenterprise Development Act was established in 1997 to provide grants to programs that provide loans, training and technical assistance to businesses with five or fewer employees. The Act has helped businesses in all 93 Nebraska counties. It is especially critical in the most rural parts of Nebraska where small business accounts for most new jobs.
The Microenterprise Development Act is unable to meet the full demand for small business development services with its current funding. Thus, it is unable to foster the business formation and job creation possible in rural Nebraska.
The Building Entrepreneurial Communities Act makes grants to rural communities to support entrepreneurship, leadership development, youth engagement and local philanthropy – four proven drivers of rural community revitalization.
Tell your Senator that the most important long-term investment the state of Nebraska can make is to create opportunities for young people and young families to build lives in our communities.

- Increase funding for the Microenterprise Development Act from $500,000 to $1.5 million;
- Increase funding for the Building Entrepreneurial Communities Act from $250,000 to $1 million; and
- Vote for LB 232 to make the Building Entrepreneurial Communities Act work better for more rural communities and allow more rural communities to shape their future through proven revitalization strategies
