RCK Creations & More Finds Business Success off the Beaten Path

Take on two new life adventures at the same time? Sure, why not! Connie and Roger Kirkpatrick were married on Friday July 3, 2009. On Monday, July 6, they signed the papers for a REAP loan to purchase equipment for their new business, RCK Creations & More.
 
Connie and Roger’s business began as a home-based operation in Alda, Nebraska. After purchasing the etching equipment and supplies, Roger spent 6 months becoming proficient with the new tools. RCK Creations & More was up and running!

Governor Declares October as Nebraska Farm to School Month

October is National Farm to School month, and the enthusiasm is sweeping the nation. Here in Nebraska, we often talk about farm to school being a win-win-win for all: students, farmers, and communities.

That was evident on September 9, 2015, at the Nebraska State Capital Building. Flocked on either side by Farm to School supporters, Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring October as Farm to School Month in Nebraska.

Clean Water is Costly

Water is a necessity for all living things. We have a responsibility to act as good stewards of our water, now and for future generations.
 
Nitrates in drinking water can be hazardous to the health of pregnant women, nursing mothers, infant children, and the elderly. Excess nitrogen can enter the water supply anytime rainfall, snow melt, or excess irrigation flows over land and the water picks up pollutants, often from the overuse of chemical fertilizers on lawns and cropland as well as poorly managed animal waste from livestock facilities.
 

Thayer County Producers Bring the Beef to School

It started out as a complex question. With more than 6 million beef cattle raised in Nebraska, and agriculture’s hold as the state’s top industry, why are Nebraska’s students not served local beef on their lunch trays?

Thayer County beef producer and chairman for the Titan Beef Boosters, Rob Marsh, got to the bottom of the problem. He came up with a unique and local solution.
