Denise received the Center for Rural Affairs' Rural Enterprise Assistance Project (REAP) Friend of the Year award.

Denise Russell is Executive Director of the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, Custer County, NE, and a strong supporter of REAP, a small business development program that offers business training, technical assistance, loans, and networking across rural Nebraska. The tireless efforts of Russell prove that she is not only an asset to her community, but a great friend to REAP.

Dena Beck, REAP Business Specialist approached Denise about conducting Broken Bow office hours in the summer of 2007. Denise instantly saw the win-win situation. Denise promotes REAP and office hours held monthly in her Chamber newsletter, to people that call or stop by the Chamber, and on her weekly radio show. "By far, the majority of the referrals in my 16-county region come from Custer County," commented Beck. "Denise is a great friend to REAP."

Denise has collaborated with REAP on Marketing Training, Agriculture and Business Succession Training, and Quick Books training.

"REAP provides great tools for our businesses to use.  This in turn enhances and expands our business community and provides jobs," commented Russell. "I am grateful for my partnership with REAP and especially Dena Beck and am happy to accept this award on behalf of our community."
