NEVADA, IOWA – Local leaders will facilitate a discussion about strategies to address climate change in rural areas with U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (D-IA) on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Iowa Climate Solutions Forum, co-hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs and Iowa Interfaith Power and Light, will be held virtually via Zoom from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

“Across Iowa, rural residents are addressing climate change in unique ways,” said Kayla Bergman, policy associate at Center for Rural Affairs. “We are excited to showcase what some local leaders are doing to build climate resiliency.”

The forum will feature local leaders from Rep. Axne’s district with various backgrounds. The panelists include Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Thompson, pastor; Seth Watkins, a farmer and landowner; and Michelle Franks, a nonprofit leader.

“This event will be an opportunity for all community members in Rep. Axne’s district to have a dialogue about what climate resiliency looks like,” said Matt Russell, executive director of Iowa Interfaith Power and Light. “Leadership at the local level, paired with support from the federal government, is critical to ensuring communities and individuals are better equipped for the future.”
