RED OAK, IOWA—Local leaders will facilitate a discussion about strategies to build community resilience on Tuesday, March 10, in Red Oak, Iowa.
The Rural Resiliency Forum, hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs, will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Montgomery County History Center, 2700 North Fourth St., in Red Oak.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
“Across Iowa, residents of rural communities are asking themselves what they can do to help their towns become more resilient,” said Cody Smith, policy associate at the Center for Rural Affairs. “We’re excited to host this forum to discuss how water quality, renewable energy, and climate policy can play a role in building a brighter future for rural Iowa.”
The forum will feature local leaders from the surrounding area who will share their work and experiences. Among the topics will be flood mitigation and watershed management. Community members are encouraged to come prepared with other topics and strategies they would like to explore.
“This event will be a hands-on opportunity where farmers, business owners, local officials, and other community members can have a dialogue about what a more resilient community looks like,” Smith said. “We believe leadership at the local and state levels is critical to ensure communities like are better equipped for their futures.”
