Currently we're at the point where all of the Senators are doing their introductory statement, which is always a time that you can snooze through. Every single Senator has to go and thank Chairman Harkin and every other Senator for all of their hard work. Senators who have not been heard from during the entire farm bill process feel the needs to drone on about how hard they've worked and how much they care.
Then they go on and on about how great farmers are, how they love food stamps, and how important farm programs are, and generally just spreading the farm bill love. Oh, and they have to talk about what wise stewards of our fiscal resources they are. But every once in a while, amusing comments come out:
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC)- "I don't begin to understand half of what we're talking about when we talk about farm bill programs."
I wonder if he'll only vote on the half of the farm bill he understands.
