Take a Spring Break and Attend the Winds of Life Auction

It’s that time of year, “Spring Break”. Everyone should take time to get away. On March 29, 2008 Nebraskans have an opportunity to take a break with out leaving the state or breaking the bank.
At the historic Opera House in Minden, NE on Saturday, March 29, the Center for Rural Affairs is celebrating the conclusion of the Winds of Life: Windmills across Nebraska project. For the last year and a half, communities across Nebraska have been participating in Winds of Life events. At Minden’s Opera House the large outdoor sculptures and smaller works of art that Nebraska artists and communities designed will be auctioned off to the public. An array of Nebraska made products will sell via silent auction.

Entertainment at the action includes live music, drinks, and hors d’oeuvres. The hors d’oeuvres recipes will be from First Lady Sally Ganem’s soon to be published cookbook. Auction goers will have the luxury of being the first to sample these delectable treats!

Winds of Life has encouraged Nebraska residents and tourists to explore county byways to view the art and be reminded that windmills not only symbolize the past but also represent the changing face of rural Nebraska.

One-third of the live auction proceeds go to the artists and the rest will be for rural community revitalization.

This is a great opportunity to take advantage of Nebraska’s many amenities and assets such as the Sandhill Crane migration, Nebraska art, and plenty of culture.
