Remember the Reason for the Season

As we celebrate the holidays it is important to slow down and enjoy our time with loved ones.

It is very easy to forget about the reason for the season. Sometimes we get so “wrapped up” in our gift shopping and a hectic, over scheduled agenda that somehow the celebration of Christmas is forgotten.

Simplify and enjoy the meaning of the holiday. There is something magical that can happen when you slow down and stop trying to buy more, or add to an already crammed schedule and realize that the holiday is special not for the things we can buy, but for the things we cannot buy, and for the things we give of ourselves.

We have great hope and many plans for the coming year. But this time of year is an opportunity for reflection, a chance to rededicate ourselves to family, friends and community. May you count your blessings not by the number of presents under the tree, but by the family and health and happiness that surrounds you.

Everyone here at the Center for Rural Affairs wishes you a wonderful Christmas and holiday season and extends to you our best wishes for the coming year.
