Business Plan Basics Class Completed at Venture Center

Local entrepreneurs are putting their ideas on paper! Entrepreneurial people have great ideas in their heads, but to move these ideas forward, they need to write them down. A recent Business Plan Basics Course at the Venture Center in Central City gave 10 people that chance.

Business Plan Basics classThe 5-session training provided participants the opportunity to learn about business plans and network about their ideas. Class participants are pictured on the right. They include Kerilyn Mersch, Raquel Reyes, Kirstine Chvala, Murray Ostberg, Tara Keenan, June Brophy, Dawn Hanson, Adele Maynard, and facilitator Nancy Eberle. Not pictured are Mike Randall and Lynn Manhart.

Class topics included goal setting, research, marketing, customer service and financial statements. The importance of identifying your target market to make the most of your advertising dollars and knowing all your costs to price appropriately were also covered.

As one class member said at the last session, “I learned a lot, but I have a lot more to learn.” Another Business Plan Basics session is scheduled in early 2010.

The class was made possible with the assistance of a BECA grant. It was a collaboration between the Merrick Foundation and the Center for Rural Affairs’ Rural Enterprise Assistance Project (REAP) Women’s Business Center.
