#GivingTuesday FAQs

Q: What is Giving Tuesday?

A: Giving Tuesday is an online, worldwide giving day. It’s a day to show support for the organizations that are near and dear to your heart. You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We especially hope you’ve heard of (and participate in!) Small Business Saturday. Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. You got your deals at the mall, downtown on Main Street, and online. Why not make a contribution that automatically doubles itself on Giving Tuesday? Watch the video below for more.

Q:Wait, the gift doubles itself? How?

A: Every dollar raised online November 24 through December 2 (up to $10,000) for the Center for Rural Affairs will be matched by Newman’s Own Foundation. This is a REALLY big deal, and we’re so fortunate that they’re supporting this effort. (editorial note: Have you tried Newman’s Own black bean salsa? Go buy some right now. We promise you won’t regret it.)

Q: Who can support this campaign?

A: Absolutely anyone! Especially people who care about:

  • Small towns
  • Family farms and ranches
  • Kids eating locally grown food at school

Q: Why this specific Tuesday?

A: We know, why not every Tuesday? Giving Tuesday is the single largest online fundraising day in the world. Did you know that nearly 30% of donations are made in December? Plus, this is the kick-off of our year-end fundraising drive to support our program work for 2016. It is worth noting that the match window opens up on November 24 and runs until 11:59 p.m. on December 1.

Q: Where will this money go?

A: To support all of the Center for Rural Affairs’ great programs, including our Farm to School work.

Q: What can I do to support the Center for Rural Affairs on Giving Tuesday?

A: Make a donation. Tell people about our work through email or social media. Sign up for our newsletter.

Q: This is all great, but I’m not completely comfortable making an online donation. Is that a problem?

A: Not at all. You can either call us (402-687-2100) and we’ll process your donation, or you can send a check to our home office in Lyons: P.O. Box 136, Lyons, NE 68038.
