Helping Families Find Success and Stability

Farm and Food

Nathan Beacom, senior policy associate for the Center for Rural Affairs, is joined by Nebraska state Sen. John McCollister and Amanda Sindelar, economic development director for the City of Atkinson, to discuss issues surrounding food access in rural areas and Legislative Bill 108, which aims to solve what is known as the cliff effect in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

LB 108, would raise the eligibility threshold and allow people to taper off their benefits until they make enough to replace them.

This bill is especially important to rural communities, where food insecurity is higher than urban areas, and where grocers and farmers markets rely on SNAP income.
