Celebrate National Entrepreneurship Week

Did you know that this week, February 25 - March 2, is National Entrepreneurship Week? Created by an act of Congress in 2006, the first National Entrepreneurship Week was February 24 to March 2, 2007.

Last year the Center for Rural Affairs held our first annual Marketplace entrepreneurship conference in Kearney during this national week celebrating the importance of entrepreneurs. With over 500 people in attendance, Marketplace was such a resounding success we decided to host the second annual version of Marketplace during the same week in Columbus.

Advanced registrations for this year’s Marketplace eclipsed 500 some weeks ago. Marketplace’s focus on the role of entrepreneurship in revitalizing rural communities created quite a buzz in rural community and economic development circles last year. We expect it will again this year.

We hope you and others from your community are planning to attend and learn from the speakers, presenters and exhibitors. There’s ample time to network with other entrepreneurs and community leaders. They can share stories about their efforts to create genuine economic opportunity in rural Nebraska, stories you can take home and build on.

A host of other entrepreneur opportunities are available through the Center for Rural Affairs, Nebraska Department of Economic Development, USDA Rural Development, Small Business Administration and others. Many of these will be on exhibit at the conference.
