Nevada, Iowa - A candidate forum for Senate District 25 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs and Iowa League of Women Voters of Ames and Story County.

The event is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Nevada Public Library, 631 K Ave., Nevada, Iowa. There is no cost to attend.

Featured are Republican candidates Chad Buss, from Parkersburg, and Annette Sweeney, from Alden. Democratic candidate Tracy Freese, from Dike, had a prior commitment but will attend general election forums.

“We hope to dive into questions about big issues like water, renewable energy, and rural health care,” said Katie Rock, Center for Rural Affairs policy associate. “Audience members will have a chance to voice their questions and concerns.”

The primary election is set for June 5, with the general election on Nov. 6.

The Senate District 25 seat is currently occupied by Sweeney, who won a special election in April to replace Republican Sen. Bill Dix, who resigned in March.

District 25 includes Hardin and Grundy counties, and parts of Butler and Story counties.
