SANTEE, NEBRASKA - Center for Rural Affairs’ Santee Community Food Project will host a beading workshop on Wednesday, April 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Nebraska Indian Community College in Santee, Neb. Food and drink will be provided.
Participants are asked to bring their own beading supplies, such as leather, beading needles, thread and awls.
During this free workshop, participants will review the basics of beading with two local beaders, Deana James and Emma Stumblingbear. They’ll also learn new beading skills as they create three projects: earrings, moccasins and wrapped lanyards.
“We’re looking forward to getting beaders together to start creating work for sale during the upcoming market season,” said April Goettle of the Center. “This workshop creates an educational opportunity for artists where they can learn from other artists.”
The beading workshop is part of the Santee Community Food Project and Public Market, a joint effort between the Center for Rural Affairs and Nebraska Indian Community College. The project supports artists with training as well as through a farmers and artisans market with artist-focused events. Artisans learn from one another about techniques, marketing, shipping, pricing and promotion of their artwork.
