Innovation and Flair Make It Work in Rural Nebraska

Missa Sue’s salon opened in 2004, and since then Melissa has done an “extreme makeover” every year. Melissa partners with other local businesses to make a customer feel like Queen for a Day with head-to-toe pampering from Missa Sue’s, flowers from Dixie’s Plantation, and a lovely meal out on the town from Saloon Too.
Melissa also started a Biolage Styling University in 2009 and a Matrix Red Carpet Event in 2010, fun evenings for customers to educate them on product and help them learn how to style their hair. Melissa says, “I’ve heard so many times ‘I can’t ever get it to look like that.’ My job is to make customers’ lives easier and educate them about their hair and how to do it.” Fancy drinks, hors d’oeuvres, gifts and gabbing with the girls make for an entertaining evening.
Attendance has doubled at the event, and the salon has gained 15 new customers over the past year as a result. In addition to these events, you can also schedule a spa and birthday parties for children and adults.
Melissa’s creativity does not end at the salon. She has also been actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce, and led a group in planning the 2008 and 2009 Laurel Night of Lights, which has become quite an event for downtown Laurel.
Through community involvement, innovative thinking and quality customer service, Melissa has grown a successful business and added value to her community by creating a wonderful escape from the day-to-day. And the best part, you don’t have to battle the hustle and bustle of the city to get the city salon perks.
