Farm to School Food Program Workshop

An educational workshop for food-service directors, farmers, community members and interested individuals is coming to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on April 15.

The workshop will be held at the University of Northern Iowa’s Malcolm Price Lab School from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bertrand Weber, director of wellness, nutrition and culinary standards for Taher, Inc., a food-services management company in Minnesota, will give the keynote address.

The company provides K-12 school lunch management and other food services to clients in 10 states. Weber has worked with school districts to elevate their school lunch programs to a healthier level.

The event is open to the public, and interested Nebraskans are most welcome! Contact Andrea Geary, andrea.geary@uni.edu or 319.273.7883 to register. Center for Rural Affairs staff member Adele Phillips is involved in organizing the meeting as well, adelep@cfra.org.

Similar events are being planned in June for North and South Dakota and for the Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma area. Farm to School connects K-12 schools and local farms with the objectives of serving healthy meals in school cafeterias, improving student nutrition, providing agriculture, health and nutrition education opportunities, and supporting local and regional farmers.
