Center Offers Community Development Resource Guide

The Center for Rural Affairs’ new Community Development Resource Guide is now available. It was created to help communities achieve their goals. After all, rural community development begins with the people living in the community.

That sounds logical, but too often a community is offered a prescribed “fix,” usually at a cost and from outside. Instead, communities should engage in a thorough evaluation of what they already have, what they need, and what positive vision for the future they can support.

A lot of factors contribute to developing a sustainable rural community, and economic development is right there at the top. Yet it can be challenging to identify and locate the resources that are available to help.

That’s where the resource guide comes in. It is organized as an easy reference document, and it contains leads to grants, foundations, even low-interest loans and other key resources

We designed the new guide to be useful in many situations. We recommend you combine it with strong visioning and strategic planning to help determine exactly what resources your community needs.

The guide primarily lists resources available in Nebraska, but we can also connect you to similar information for other locations. We are available to assist your community in setting a vision, determining priorities, creating a strategic plan, and assisting you in accomplishing your goals.

Support for local non-profit organization

My name is David Grissom and I am a Board Member for the local Rural Community Caswell County Parish, Inc. located in Yanceyville, North Carolina. Our mission is to assist people throughout our community with food, clothing, and as money permits, with electrical bills. All of the people who qualify for assistance, must complete an application explaning their needs. Caswell County, where the Caswell Parish is located, has many people who are not employed or cannot work due to health problems or is a part of a large elder population and their fixed incomes are very limited. Although Yanceyville is the County Seat for Caswell County, jobs and future opportunities for businesses to come to Yanceyville is not is not in our forecast and unfortunately we do not see any possibilities at this time. The Caswell Parish is in desperate need of repair so we can supply more food and other items that will assist people in need. A much needed grant from your organization would be very helpful and if there is any information or material you need to help explain our situation, I will be more than willing to assist you. I hope the above information will at least give you any idea of our need. I hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks, David Grissom
