Local Food Distribution Service in Nebraska

The Nebraska Environmental Action Coalition and the Nebraska Food Cooperative are working together to develop a food distribution service to provide transportation of locally raised and processed food to those who want to purchase it.

Their first run will take place in May. If you or someone you know would like to earn some extra income by supplying food through the Nebraska Food Cooperative, members are in need of more food products, particularly garden-fresh fruits and vegetables. You can sell as little as you like, or as much as the market will support. All you need is a computer and food to grow.

The planned range for this year is east of Highway 183 to the Missouri River – just about the eastern half of Nebraska. This is the best chance to grow food for sale in the big cities. If you are interested in this service or need help, contact the Nebraska Food cooperative at info@nebraskafood.org.

I am wondering if this program extends to a business like our bakery. Everything that we sell we produce with our own hands. There are many people who still don't understand the concept of a small town bakery -sometimes we are asked "where do you get your bread, pastries etc. from? We have not been very involved with Center for Rural Affairs because, quite frankly the emphasis has been more on the farmer and the products they produce. We're interested so let us know!
