Act Now for Rural America

As we go to press the U.S. Senate is poised to take up their version of the 2007 Farm Bill. With any luck the bill will be either on the floor, or headed for conference committee by the time you are reading this. If the bill is on the Senate floor, a quick call to your U.S. Senators will help move the debate in the right direction.

If the bill has passed the Senate and is headed for conference committee, your call is still important. There will be significant differences between the House and Senate bill on key issues of reform, and you can speak up for a final bill that meets the needs of all of rural America.

Call the Capitol Switchboard today at 202.224.3121. Ask for your senator’s office, and voice your concerns and hopes for the 2007 Farm Bill.

Talking Points:

Payment Limits: The 2007 Farm Bill should finally bring an end to the unlimited payments that subsidize the nation’s largest farms to grow ever bigger and destroy family farming.

Rural Development: The Farm Bill can work for all of rural America by investing in the future of rural communities, entrepreneurial businesses, and important infra-structure.

Conservation: Urge your Senators to support a Farm Bill that rewards farmers for protecting our air, water, and soil.
