Iowa Policy Advocacy 101

National policy tends to draw an enormous amount of attention - especially these days. And for good reason. Policies such as the Farm Bill, Clean Power Plan and Affordable Care Act affect the entire country.

Dear Mr. President: keep rural America a priority

Dear Mr. President:

As organizations representing rural America, we look forward to working with your Administration in the coming years to help ensure that all Americans face a brighter future. We also look forward to having Governor Perdue at the helm of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), working on behalf of rural America.

As you witnessed first-hand during the campaign, the issues facing rural America are no less significant than those facing urban parts of the country, but can more easily be overlooked because America’s small towns and rural areas make up just 15 percent of the nation’s population.

Free crop insurance workshops set

Are you a Nebraska farmer or rancher who can’t get crop insurance for all of your crops?  Are you a new Nebraska farmer and don’t know much about how crop insurance works and whether it can work for you?

We have a workshop for you.

You might have heard of a program called Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP).  It is crop insurance offered by USDA that covers the revenue of a farm operation, and it encourages on-farm diversity.

The 2017 session is a “long” session – legally mandated to be 90 days in length. The Legislature opened on Jan. 4, 2017, and is tentatively scheduled to adjourn on June 2, 2017.

The deadline for bill introduction was Jan. 18. Each bill introduced will be heard in one of 14 standing committees. Committee hearings begin in mid-January and last through early March.
