The Justice Department and the US Department of Agriculture hosted the final joint workshop on antitrust and competition in agriculture and the food system in Washington, DC on Dec. 8, 2010. The workshop focused on producer-to-retail price margins.
Politicians were busy in the waning days of the 111th Congress. Two issues in particular caught our attention at the Center for Rural Affairs: the passage of the Food Safety Modernization Act (S. 510) and changes to the estate tax. Both of these measures affect rural Americans in very real ways, so it’s worth taking a moment to figure out what they mean for us.
On December 15th, the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Advisory Committee selected Traci Bruckner of the Center for Rural Affairs as their chair. Bruckner was recently reappointed to serve another two-year term on the USDA advisory board.
