We are reaching a critical point in the Farm Bill debate and an opportune time to contact Senator Ben Nelson - who is positioned to play the pivotal role on capping payment to mega-farms and ensuring the Farm Bill invests in the future of rural America.

Senator Nelson has already shown strong leadership in introducing his Rural Entrepreneurs and Microenterprise Act for consideration in the Farm Bill. It provides loans, training and technical assistance to rural small business with up to ten employees. We also need his strong leadership on capping payments to mega farms, so farm programs don't subsidize them to drive smaller operations out of business.

  • Urge Senator Nelson to fight hard to close payment limitation loopholes. Explain in a sentence or two why effective payment limitations are critical
  • Urge Senator Nelson to use the savings from closing the loopholes to fund his Rural Microenterprise Act and the Value Added Producer Grants Program, which helps family farmers and ranchers work together to tap higher value markets and add value to crops and livestock
  • Thank Senator Nelson for introducing the Rural Microenterprise Act and for his past support for capping mega farm payments
