Conservation Security Program Alert

Your quick action can help secure the six key swing votes needed to keep the Conservation Security Program alive.

On May 17th Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) introduced his conservation proposals for the 2007 Farm Bill in which no new sign-ups for the Conservation Security Program (CSP) are authorized until 2012. In effect, this decision kills the CSP program for the life of the new farm bill.

The House Agriculture Subcommittee will vote on the Farm Bill Conservation Title on Tuesday, May 22nd. If subcommittee members speak up now, they can help keep CSP alive.

Action Needed: Contact your representative using the information below. Contact them no later than Tuesday morning, May 22nd. Members of the Conservation subcommittee will meet that morning to debate the Chairman’s bill. They must stand up and express their disapproval with Chairman Peterson’s plan to gut the 2007 Farm Bill funding for the Conservation Security Program.

The message is simple: I am a constituent and I am urging Representative ______ to stand up for the Conservation Security Program during mark-up on Tuesday, May 22nd by expressing their support for the Conservation Security Program, and their opposition to the chairman’s proposal to gut the program.
