LYONS, NE -  The Center for Rural Affairs Rural Enterprise Assistance Project-REAP is pleased to announce that they are celebrating over eight years of office hours in Broken Bow.

REAP is the largest statewide rural program in the nation, operating Nebraska's first and only Women’s Business Center and the Latino Business Center. The program focuses on small business development. REAP consists of elements including: networking, business management training, credit (micro-loans) and technical assistance. REAP staff are located across Nebraska to provide full service to Nebraska's rural micro entrepreneurs. Each Loan Specialist serves one of 4 regions across the state. Dena Beck, REAP Loan Specialist for the Southwest/Central region of Nebraska, serves the Broken Bow and Custer County area as well as 15 other counties in Southwest and Central Nebraska.

“It all started over 8 years ago when I started working for the Rural Enterprise Assistance Project-REAP,” commented Beck. “In looking at my service territory, it was clear that I was on the eastern edge and I was going to need to figure out the best way to serve the reaches about two hours away from my home office (North of Minden). When I approached both a Broken Bow Chamber Member and Economic Development Board Member about REAP services and the possibility of having monthly office hours in Broken Bow, they were both very interested and eager to partner. That partnership has remained strong over the years.”

“When Dena first came to town, I was excited to see her enthusiasm to help people,” said Rick Nelson, Executive Board member with the Custer County Economic Development Corp. “She brought me in to help mentor a business that was expanding. That business today is still a thriving small business. That connection led to me teaching the Business Plan Basics course for the last three years to small businesses trying to plan for their future.”

According to Donnis J. Hueftle-Bullock, Executive Director, Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, “It is a pleasure to be able to provide the office for REAP and Dena on a monthly basis. We have enjoyed getting to know her and are happy to help make the appointments for the Broken Bow office hours.  When we have individuals walk through our doors and talk to us about starting a business, Dena and REAP are one of the first things we talk to them about.  Dena is a strong supporter of the Chamber and we appreciate her recommendations about joining the Chamber to the individuals that she talks to.”

Dena is typically in Broken Bow the first Tuesday of the month from 10-3pm.  She can meet people at the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, 444 S 8th Ave, Broken Bow, NE 68822 or at their place of business.  Call (308) 872-5691 for an appointment.
