Worth the Read

Over at the Mulch Blog, Ken Cook has a couple of great posts.

First Ken dives into the political reasons the Dorgan-Grassley payment limits amendment needs to get 60 votes tomorrow to succeed (rather than 50). Basically, the Democratic leadership is playing politics and trying to avoid an fight that would have the potential make them look bad. Ken’s closing paragraph:

If these reform votes now fail because they get 59 votes or less, we'll be placing the blame squarely, and relentlessly, where it belongs--on Democrats, who talk a big game about equity, fairness, progress and making change, then once again give the subsidy lobby every legislative advantage to perpetuate the wasteful, scandalous status quo.

Damn straight.

The next post is about Nancy Pelosi and how she became a Colin Peterson supporter. The title of the post is “Pelosi Sold Out For A Pork Chop On A Stick”. If that doesn’t get you to read it, I don’t know what will.

Ken quotes a story from Carolyn Lochhead of the San Francisco Chronicle. In my opinion, Ms. Lochhead should get some sort of award for the best farm bill coverage from a newspaper that would not traditionally be expected to dive into farm bill politics. She does great work.

They’re both worth a read.
